You're doing it wrong- Washing your hair

Hey everyone! It's Friday! Anyone else excited?!
I'll be heading off to Milwaukee for the weekend so won't get many blogs done, but check out my Facebook official page: "Sierra's hair&beauty" for fun updates!
Today I'd thought I'd throw in a post on the correct way to wash your hair. I know, it sounds but silly. but as you read it, just ask yourself if you do that or not, and you'll be surprised(:

1. Start with a rinse.
Now I find this to be the most obvious, but however others do not do it this way. Just like laundry needs a rinse cycle, so does your hair! Hot water opens of the cuticle which will help remove dirt or trapped product.

2. If you have long hair, condition first
I know, crazy right? If your hair is beneath your shoulders, protect your fragile ends by running a small amount of conditioner through them and then lightly rinsing before you shampoo. This will fill in any holes in teh cuticle with moisture making it smooth and shiny!

3. Lather it up- but only at the scalp
The best way to lather up is from the roots to the ends. The hair closest to the scalp is the healthiest, youngest hair which makes it the oiliest. And don't use too much shampoo. You really one need like a quarter size(maybe double if you have long hair)

4.Be gentle
Friction can damage your cuticle leading to breakage and frizz, and nobody wants that. If you lather at the scalp, it will create blood flow and stimulate hair growth. DO NOT USE CIRCULAR MOTIONS. Use verticle strokes with medium pressure.
Then, smooth your lather down to your ends in a straight stroking motion. DO NOT SCRUB YOUR ENDS

5.Do not rinse and repeat
Despite what the shampoo instructions say, there's no need to wash it twice.Unless the hair is extremely and the first time didn't produce "bubbles", go ahead and do it agin. but that is the only exception!

6.Add conditioner from the mid-lengths to the tips.
So the mid-lengths are about and inch or two from the scalp.Squeeze all the access water out of your hair before applying conditioner. Then put a shower cap on or clip your hair up and finish your shower leaving the conditioner to be the last thing you take care of. The longer you leave it, the better it absorbs. DO NOT PUT CONDITIONER ON YOUR ROOTS. The oil from your scalp is  more concentrated there.

Overnight products to use to wake up feeling pretty.

Hey everyone! I've seen all over pinterest "How to wake up feeling pretty" and such. So I thought I would throw in some things that I have done or still do!

1. Chapstick.
Doesn't matter what kind you apply to your lips, just don't neglect them on show them some love! Want a tip? To exfoliate and get rid of dead skin on your lips- use your toothbrush to scrub it off in the morning.,
Also, a great product I recommend is Mary Kay Satin Lips. Amazing stuff!

2.Moisturize
Now when I say moisturize, I mean EVERYWHERE. But pay special attention to your hands and feet! Especially with summer right around the corner! Use some vasoline or a heavy lotion on your feet, and slip on a pair of socks, you'll feet will thank you for days!

3. Smile Pretty
I also recommend a teeth whitener. Whether you use a liquid whitener or whitening strips! I use Crest 3D Supreme Fit, howevever, I do it an hour before bed because that's the recommend timing. Though, they do make ones to wear all night if you are comfortable with doing so.

4.H2O
Ever wake up feeling like you're going to die if you don't have something to drink? Keep a glass of water on your night stand so that it's the first thing you reach for. Also,if you wake up feeling hungry, the water will keep you from wandering down the stairs to a midnight snack!

5. Hair treatments
Remember that coconut oil treatment I talked about? Throw some coconut oil in your hair and cover with a shower cap. Leaving this on over night is a guarantee for beautiful hair. Along with that, the shower cap with keep the scalp warm and Stimulate hair growth. WIN!

What are your nightly routines? I'd love to hear them!

10 Myths about hair that you need to stop believing!

Hey everyone! Once again I've just been so busy and haven't had the chance to catch up on my blogs! So here's a new one today. As a hairstylist, you wouldn't believe the things I hear come out of my clients mouth when it comes to their hair. And all I can think about is where are they hearing these ridiculous things from?!

1.Cutting Hair Makes It Grow Faster and/or Thicker
Since when does your hair grow from the bottom up?. This is indeed a myth. Cutting your hair will NOT make it grow faster.
However, I preach that  the only way for your hair to grow healthy is to get a trim. I'm not saying you need to get one every 4-6 weeks, but keeping up on trims will make your hair look longer and healthier as you rid of those ends.
Keep in mind damaged ends tend to grow slower than healthy hair.

2.Split ends can be cured with just the use of product.
MYTH. While there are many great products that merge your ends together, the only successful treatment to split ends is to get them cut off. Those products will keep your ends together until your next shampoo...sooo what good is that?

3.Washing Hair Every Day Dries It Out

False.  The right shampoo for your hair type and texture will actually add moisture, body and beauty to your hair.  The key is to finding the correct shampoo designed for your hair.

4.Hair Should Be Washed Every Day

False.  There is no correct schedule for washing hair.  Every person should shampoo according to the specific needs of their hair type and texture.  While some people do benefit from a daily shampoo, others benefit from a variety of shampooing schedules

5.Comb your hair from top to bottom.
Wrong. Your hair is so fragile when its wet. Start at the bottom with a wide-toothed comb or brush and work through those ends.

6.Sleeping with your hair down makes it grow faster
There's an old myth that says if you sleep with your hair down, it lets your scalp breathe, making it easier for your hair to grow. Well, that's just silly! In fact, sleeping with your hair down can cause tangles, and the oils from your hair can give you acne if your skin is sensitive, especially if you use hair products.

7.Your hair stops growing at a certain point
We're talking about your hair...not your height....The hair will grow as long as you want it to when you care for it properly, eat well, prevent and treat split ends, and handle it gently.

8.Cold water is better for your hair
Cold water does not influence your hair health. However, extreme heat can damage your hair. In fact, cold water rinses may not efficiently rinse products out of your hair as well as warm water, and they don't make your hair any shinier. Though cold water can appear to make your hair shinier, lukewarm water is best to stimulate the follicles on your head, which can make your hair grow faster than cold water will.

9.Sunlight is the best way to lighten your hair.
False. The sun is just as damaging to the hair as it is to your skin!

10. You should brush your hair 100times before bed.
You know when you used to watch Disney movies and the mom's would brush their little girls' hair before bed, and count to 100? Well...this isn't Disney and that for sure is a myth.Brushing your hair is designed to remove tangles andsuch. An dif you brush it excessively if can pull the hair out at the root and even weaken the hair strand.

So I hope I have helped you all the Fact and Fiction! It's your hair, show it some love!!!

Favorite Professional Hair Care Products

Hey everyone! I had done a post on favorite drug store products, and now here's one on my favorite professional products! Although these are not styling products, these are things I use every single day and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them.

It's a 10:
I put this product in my hair when its wet. You have to be careful not to put too much because it gets heavy and your hair will look greasy. This stuff is great because  it does 10 things instantly!
Repairs dry and damaged hair
Adds shine
Detangles
Controls frizz
Seals and protects hair color
Prevents split ends
Stops hair breakage
Creates silkiness
Enhances natural body
Thermal Protection
Isn't that amazing?! Most times you'd have to buy a individual product for each of those things!
I have the 4oz bottle and the price usually runs around $17.95. I know it seems expensive, but I've had this bottle since December and it's almost May! It's still half full. If you use it the way it's suppose to be used, it will last long and give you great results that makes the money worth it. Trust me!

Healthy Sexy Hair: Soya want it all. 22 in 1:
These is also a leave in treatment. I put it in when my hair is damp, comb it through and proceed blow drying. I like this stuff because its a light spray, not something heavy that will leave residue on my hair. It contains Soy, Cocoa, and Argan oil, which are all essential for great healthy hair!
I purchased this for $19.95. Again, a little pricey, but why wouldn't you want a product that serves for multiple purposes?

Paul Mitchell Super Skinny:
Oh em gee. I fell in love with this stuff in beauty school. Its a  smoothing treatment that is amazing for all hair!Any time a client tells me that their hair lookss dry, or their ends look horrible, I'll place this product in their hand and end up with a sale! The directions tell you to apply to damp hair, which I do, but I also will run a small amount through my ends when my hair is dry. Using too much will make your hair look greasy in a hurry. This stuff has a great smell, and putting it in before blow drying will help the hair dry faster, so that's also a plus.
I purchased this bottle in the 5.1oz which was $17.99 but they also have a small travel size bottle that I carry with me that was only $5.99. This product lasts a long time and I use it every single day!

Biolage Exquisite Oil:
This product is also a serum that I use in my wet hair daily. It also has Argan, Macadamia, and Moringa oils to help restore hair. The great thing about this product is it's Multi-use. Instead of just putting it in your hair after showering, you can apply a few drops before shampooing, during conditions, or as an overnight treatment. Either way its amazing stuff.
This product is the most costly, coming in at $22.00 for 3.1oz, but just like Super Skinny, it lasts a long time!

I purchased all these products at the Smart Style salon I work at. Smart Style is Regis owned, so you'll be able to find them in any of the following: Cost Cutters, Smart Clips, Maxx and Mia, Regis.
Also you can buy these products at any Ulta Beauty.
Please take caution and do NOT buy these products off any drugstore shelf, because chances are they are not the real thing and you will NOT get the same results.

What are you favorite products? Have you tried any of these?

Self- Tanners. Love/Hate

Hey everyone! With having such a long gloomy winter and summer around the corner (unless you live in Wisconsin -_-) I thought I'd do a blog on Self Tanners. Something every girl should look into. Some of you may lay in a tanning bed, but ever since a close loved one of mine was diagnosed with skin cancer, I stopped going that direction and you guys might want to also. So within the last year I have tried some different Self Tanners and will share with you what worked and what didn't!

  • Tanwise Sunless tanning lotion-I bought this at Sally's Beauty. It comes in lotion or foam form. I chose the lotion for better application. Tanwise gives you instant bronze, and continues to develop through out the day. However, if you do not rub it in evenly it will leave noticeable streaks. It also has that "After Tan" smell. It seems to linger until your shower. Yuck. After a couple of uses and getting it evenly applied, I did like the color. But honestly, I probably will not purchase again.
  • Tanwise Self-tanning face gel. This I also bought at Sally's.It was right next to the Tanwise lotion. This product is specifically made for your face and neck area. I love this stuff because we all know how hard it is to keep your face tan.It works great to give you a little to color to match your foundation. It also works immediately but you must let it dry before applying any makeup.I would purchase this product again.
  • Fake Bake. I know- the name sounds horrible but it;s not that bad. I purchased this at CosmoProf but I'm sure you can order it online. This product came with a spritz bottle and a glove. You spritz the bronzer to the sponge likee glove and rub it on to your body.Just like Tanwise, you must have an even application, but the sponge-like glove helps with that. It didn't really have a lingering smell which was great. However, the product quality did not last well over time. I purchased this in August and by February it came out in black splots. I may purchase it again just to use at a faster rate.
  • Jergens Natural Glow. LOVE.LOVE.LOVE. I bought it at Walmart in the Medium shade. The great part about this self-tanner is that it actually moisturizes while tanning you. STEAL! Who wouldn't love that? I use this product religiously every time I get out of the shower. I will definitely be purchasing this again and taking it on every trip I go on.

  •
  •  Airbrush Legs. So yes, this is a leg makeup..however I am a cheater. This stuff gives great color! Why wouldn't I use it on the rest of my body?! I bought it at Walmart in the "Light/Clair" shade. This stuff is seriously amazing. A little goes a long way and it doesn't have a bad smell.WIN! The only down fall I can find with this stuff is that it can easily be washed off. It's not something that's going to gradually make your skin darker the more you use it. I will for sure be buying some in  the future and will use it as my go-to for quick color.

So these are just a few of my favorite, and hated Self-Tanning products. I hope these help you all achieve you flawless, safe tans!

What are your favorite Self-Tanners?

Crazy, Tragic, Beautiful Life UPDATE!

Hey everyone! It's only been 6 days since my last post but like I said before I have been super crazy busy! You wouldn't believe all the excitement that has happened for me!

Shot my very first turkey on my very first day turkey hunting on 4/23/14

Did my very first day of prom updos (6 of them)

Ran my very first 5K! The Color Run!
I started working out at the end of January an signed up for the 5k in February, well within the last month or so , my work schedule has been all over the place that I never really had the time to go to the gym anymore, and living in Wisconsin, I couldn't just go outside when I pleased because it was still snowing! So I had to cut back on my training. My boyfriend also signed up with me! It was literally 36 degrees when we ran on Sunday and pretty sure everyone knows how hard it is to run in the cold!! Needless to say, I didn't end up running the whole thing like I wanted to, I did walk some of it, but my boyfriend was right there beside me either way. And we crossed the finish line with over 6,000 others:)
I can't wait to do better on my next one!

And on top of it all, I have given up soda! I'm so proud of myself. This is my 6th day without it.Although I did have a little less than half of  Mt.Dew on Friday because it was the only thing there, but it doesn't even taste good to me anymore! So what am I drinking instead? I drink lots of water now! I hated water before, don't ask why, I was just against it hah. But along with water I also have a NAKED Fruit smoothie every morning. Usually in Strawberry Banana, but today I grabber Berry Blast by accident, and that's pretty good too! I feel so much better about myself knowing that I could give up something I never thought I could!

So this has been my crazy life in the last 6 days! I have loved every minute of it!
